About Me

Amali Jullie James Basamungu is a dedicated Nutrition and Protection professional with a Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutritional Sciences (First Class) from Wollega University, Ethiopia. She brings a blend of technical nutrition expertise, field-based humanitarian experience, and community-centered protection work—anchored in her passion for reducing malnutrition and safeguarding vulnerable populations in South Sudan.

Before joining REDO, Amali served as a Nutrition Assistant with Community Youth for Development Aid (CYDA), where she conducted community-based nutrition assessments using MUAC, promoted infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices, and supported growth monitoring, supplementary feeding, and case referral for malnourished children. Her work contributed to improving maternal and child nutrition outcomes while strengthening community ownership of nutrition initiatives.

Amali’s humanitarian journey began with Amref Health Africa under the GIZ WASH Project, where she volunteered as a Safe Water Champion, promoting hygiene and sanitation practices to prevent waterborne diseases.

She also served with the South Sudan Red Cross as a First Aider and volunteer, gaining hands-on experience in community protection, emergency response, and humanitarian coordination.

Her academic background includes a research project on dietary diversity and adolescent nutrition, reflecting her commitment to evidence-based solutions for malnutrition. She possesses strong skills in research analysis, community mobilization, data reporting, nutritional counseling, protection awareness, and computer literacy.

Fluent in English, Arabic, and Zande, Amali is an effective communicator and empathetic field worker who thrives in multicultural environments. She brings to REDO a strong sense of professionalism, teamwork, and compassion—qualities that enable her to deliver life-changing nutrition and protection services to conflict-affected communities in Central Equatoria State.
