Empowering Voices: Kasia Victim Support Group Prepared to Navigate South Sudan’s New Transitional Justice Laws

Yambio, South Sudan – As South Sudan took crucial steps towards peace, reconciliation, and healing with the recent enactment of the Commission for Truth, Reconciliation and Healing (CTRH) Act 2024 and the Compensation and Reparation Authority (CRA) Act 2024, victim support groups were proactively strengthened with the capacity to engage with these vital mechanisms. Among them, the Kasia Victim Support Group in Bangasu payam of Yambio county participated in a critical capacity strengthening workshop, placing a strong emphasis on fostering constructive community dialogue among its members.

The workshop, which took place on July 10, 2025, and was organized by REDO, equipped members of the Kasia Victim Support Group with a comprehensive understanding of the new legislation, their rights as victims, and the avenues for seeking redress. Crucially, it also focused on building internal communication and dialogue skills, recognizing the power of shared experiences and collective voice in the journey towards justice and healing.

Through interactive sessions and expert presentations, participants gained a deeper understanding of the CTRH Act 2024 and CRA Act 2024. The workshop also provided a platform for members to share their experiences, hopes, and concerns related to the Acts, fostering a sense of community and collective agency.
